MOTORCYCLE AND SCOOTER REGISTRATIONS ARE STILL ON THE UP!

MORE NEWS IS OUT FROM THE MCIA ABOUT A RISE IN MOTORCYCLING DESPITE LOCKDOWNS!

Powered Two Wheelers (PTWs) are still growing in popularity for travellers who want to miss out on the fun of travelling on crowded public transport or sitting in a traffic jam in a car going nowhere fast. Although motorcycles and bicycles can both be beneficial to mental health, bicycles do not always have the required range or carrying capability of motorcycles, so a PTW is an obviously sound choice. Sadly though, the government does not class motorcycle dealers and PTW shops as essential, so they have suffered from the lockdowns :( sounds like an illness in itself – suffering from a bad case of the lockdowns 😂 this year, having long periods of closure.
Despite this though, motorcycles have sold consistently really well in the periods when the shops were allowed to be open, meaning that sales were just 22 units down on November 2019 with registrations of motorcycles up on last year. Total PTW registrations have flourished over all especially for scooters which have increased in sales by 6.1% as more and more folks have discovered the sensible answer to lockdown and pandemic travel.

New electric PTW registrations have rocketed too, standing at 15.5% up and sales are a blinding 45.7% higher than the year to date 2019. They seem to be hitting the spot as they can be charged from a normal domestic three pin plug and many have removable batteries, so can be taken to the power source rather than having to find a charging source.

If you are reading this on our Wemoto news page, the chances are you are already a motorcyclist, but if not, or if you want to pass on any information to would-be riders, check out this link from the MCIA for more information about how to get started on a motorcycle or a scooter. This includes info on how to get a CBT course to get riding.

Obviously this information is preaching to the converted to us motorcycle fans but it's nice to know that the rest of the country is catching on!
Thanks to the MCIA for this data.
